The City is moving forward with plans to reconstruct the Glen Road pedestrian bridge (Morley Callaghan Footbridge) across the Rosedale Valley Ravine and the pedestrian tunnel under Bloor Street East that connect the neighbourhoods of Rosedale and North St James Town.
Starting March 7, 2022, the pedestrian bridge and tunnel will close in order to proceed with the following planned work:
Removal of the existing bridge and construction of a new pedestrian bridge;
Replacement of the pedestrian tunnel;
Installation of a barrier free accessible path from the north side of Bloor Street East to connect with the bridge; and
Public realm enhancement at the north and south ends of the bridge and tunnel.
This project is anticipated to be complete in fall 2023.
During construction, traffic on Bloor Street East will be reduced to one shared travel lane in each direction for people driving and cycling excavate Bloor Street in two stages and reconstruct the tunnel underneath in half during each stage.
To remove the existing bridge and lift steel components of the new bridge in place, four planned weekend (Saturday and Sunday) full road closures of Rosedale Valley Road will be required between April 2022 and August 2022 for heavy crane operations.
