And for those of you who are interested, here is a little more background on the Allan Gardens Food Bank (AGFB)

AGFB is an independent food bank and registered Charity since 2020, located at St. Luke’s United Church, 353 Sherbourne Street.

We provide food boxes Thursday and Friday from 12:30-3:00PM.

Clients can choose between a variety of canned goods, dairy products, various protein items, cereals, rice & fresh vegetables.

We currently serve approximately 900 people each week; seniors, people with physical disabilities, people living with mental illness, members of the LGBTQ2 community, the homeless, new immigrants, First Nations people and families who are simply in temporary need.

Food security for our guests is a daily struggle. The number of households visiting the food bank has increased by 266% since the pandemic began and demand for food shows no sign of slowing.

Data collected for the last two months of 2019 to the present demonstrate the increased demands required to feed our neighbours:

Average clients per day in 2019 ( based on only 2 months) 167

Average clients per day in 2022 (To date) 378 (226%)

Average clients per day this October 444 (266%)

Total clients served 2022 to date 31,744

Total clients served 2022, Total year estimated 38,000

We deliver 280 boxes per month to the Inglewood Arms rooming house and our partners Friendly Neighbour Hotline and the Bike Brigade deliver an additional 100 boxes per month.

AGFB is entirely volunteer driven including 36 volunteers & seven volunteer directors providing approximately 1,000 hours per month. And we have remained in operation throughout the pandemic.
