An Important deadline looms to have your opinion included in the Yonge Street Bike Lane Pilot Project
The Yonge Street Bike Lane Pilot project will be reviewed on Monday January 30th at the city’s Infrastructure and Environment Committee (IEC). The SRRA supports bike lanes however we are opposed to them on Yonge Street and would support moving them to Avenue Road. The overwhelming consensus in our neighbourhood is that the Yonge Street bike lane pilot is not working as originally proposed by the City in 2021, then extended in March 2022 for more study (and supposed consultation). It needs to end as quickly as possible. The IEC will make a recommendation to Toronto Council on February 7th whether to make the Yonge Street bike lane pilot permanent… or move the pilot to another location, like Avenue Road, as an alternate route to pilot. To save you time (this can take you as little as 1 minute), and assist as many neighbours as possible, I have drafted an email to the IEC members and other pertinent elected government representatives. Conveniently, this email already has the recipient email addresses pre-populated. At the bottom of the email add your name and local address so our elected representatives know you live in the neighbourhood… and not simply part of an outside special interest group. Of course any changes, as you wish, can be made to customize/ reflect your personal comments and concerns about the bike lanes. It’s important to send this email before Friday January 27th at 4:00pm which is the deadline established by the IEC to receive correspondence for consideration at their meeting on Monday January 30th. This e-mail can conveniently be accessed by clicking on the link immediately below: Click here to email the mayor and your city councilors Of course, if you know of others in the community who oppose the Yonge Street bike lane fiasco please forward this message along (recipients of this message have been BCC’d to respect privacy when forwarded). Time is of the essence… our local government needs to listen to those most impacted in our community. As a final aside, the cost of the signs, literature, etc has been funded privately. Any financial support would also be greatly appreciated at GoFundMe: https://gofund.me/d5533c1c Thanks. Trevor Townsend BeRationalTO@gmail.com
